🪦 A New Chapter
We launched Vampire Videos in 2022 to mark the centenary of Nosferatu. Remarkably, that was four years ago. Time flies when you’re having fun! Since then, we’ve produced over ~170 episodes, including bonuses, across 15 seasons.
While Hugh McStay has explored other podcasting avenues (like Marvel on Podcast-616 and modern horror on, well, Modern Horror), Dan Owen has remained fanatically dedicated to vampirism. But together, we’ve grown this project beyond our wildest dreams, expanding into this Substack newsletter, a dedicated website, a thriving Discord community, and even branded merch just last month.
Best of all, our listenership continues to grow and we’ve started entering the Top 25 shows on Apple Podcast Charts.
Why a New Podcast?
We’ve often discussed doing a second show together, but we didn’t want to rush into it. Podcasting requires dedication and time-management (especially once you’re juggling multiple projects), and we’re protective of the care we give to our “first love,” Vampire Videos.
However, having streamlined our production schedule—specifically while covering episodes of long-running shows like Buffy—we think we can find the time for a new, shorter-term project.
That’s why we’re thrilled to announce: Recrypted: A Tales From The Crypt Podcast.
What is RECRYPTED?
As the name suggests, we’re tackling the iconic HBO anthology horror series Tales From The Crypt (1989–1996).
Why now? The show recently hit Shudder, making all 93 episodes easily accessible for the first time in years. (Many are uploaded to YouTube too, of course…)
The Vibe: Expect horror, dark comedy, lashings of gore, and plenty of terrible puns. If you like Vampire Videos, you’ll feel right at home here!
Launch Details
Shudder began releasing Tales seasons weekly from 1 May 2026. We’ve given the initial hype a moment to settle down before we dive in, but recordings are well underway.
We imagine Recrypted will crawl into existence in the coming weeks. Stayed tuned to our social media for the exact date. And follow our Instagram until then too!
Format: We’ll be covering two instalments each episode, featuring a mix of familiar and new weekly guests.
Production: Expect the same top-quality sound design and tongue-in-cheek “world-building” you’ve come to expect from us. We love a spooky ambience and sound FX.
First Episode: Keep an eye out for a special “Prologue” dropping soon, which will explain our vision for the show in more detail.
Is this the end of Vampire Videos?
Absolutely not.
Vampire Videos remains our top priority. While we’ve done over 150 mainline episodes, our “Master List” of films has hundreds of titles still left to explore, and we’ve barely scratched the surface of vampires on television.
If anything, Recrypted is going to be a “fun diversion” for a year or so—a chance for us to stay creatively refreshed without the pressure of growth and promotion. We may even take longer breaks between Recrypted seasons to ensure Vampire Videos never loses its bite.
Stay tuned to our social media channels for more teasers, which we hope you’ll share to help spread the word amongst friends and family. Maybe some people didn’t care for vampires, but the variety offered by Tales From The Crypt is more to their taste.
